About Us

We are both CELTA qualified and experienced English teachers (previously teachers at the Barnes English School before its sad closure after 40 years). We are now running classes in the heart of Barnes. English is our mother tongue. We welcome anyone over the age of 18 wishing to improve their English. All our classes provide practice in Speaking, Vocabulary, Listening, Reading and Writing, in a friendly, fun and welcoming atmosphere. We aim to build confidence, and make friends at the same time! Many of our students are young people spending relatively short periods of time in the UK, in Barnes and surrounding areas (such as Putney, Fulham, Chiswick, Richmond).

‘ I have been teaching English to adult learners for over 12 years. Before that, I worked for many years as an editor in the book-publishing business. I have an MA in Modern Languages (French and German) from the University of Cambridge, and a CELTA diploma in Teacher of English as a Foreign Language.

I have taught English at all levels from Beginner to Proficiency, including preparation for Cambridge English exams from FCE to C2, I enjoy meeting students from all over the world and helping them to improve their English.’

‘I am also a graduate of the University of Cambridge where I studied history and law. After some time working as a lawyer both in the City of London and in London’s West End, I retrained as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language and I hold a CELTA diploma.

I really enjoy seeing my students improve in confidence and take great pleasure in helping them achieve their learning objectives.’

‘ I cover occasional classes for Amanda and Sarah and also teach private 1-1 and small group classes. Over the past 14 years I have had broad experience teaching students of different nationalities, from Beginner to Advanced level. I have successfully prepared many students for their Cambridge English exams.’

I have been teaching English for over 15 years and have lots of experience with all levels, including Business English. My students have successfully passed the Cambridge First, Advanced and Proficiency exams as well as British Citizenship exams. Every private lesson is designed for the student either online or face to face.
